I had decided to go out of my way and along with my cousin Grace, we got off the car and asked the taxi to wait for us. I wanted something different. Not dangerous, just different. And that’s when I noticed these guys busy working by the banks, paws in their hands, taking the wet sand and throwing it into their pirogue.
My foothold was not stable so I had to move closer to get the perfect shot. From afar, I could hear men’s voices getting louder and angrier, but I did not stop. I needed my picture. Grace panicked. She insisted that we left but I was not having any of it. I continued to move around looking for the perfect angle but my heartbeat moved up a notch as the shouts became louder and closer…
We almost ran out of the place, men chasing us away…What a relief when we spotted our driver by the exit though we had left him on the other side of the place…something tells me that the shouts indicated him we were in danger! What a brave man!
