Description
I was on the boat that was crossing the Lake Kivu from Bukavu to Goma. ‘See I am seasick (car sick, air sick, altitude sick…basically, name one sickness and I have it!) so most of the time, when I travelled by speedboat, I stayed in the cabin, my face almost stuck onto the window, counting away the minutes, hoping to be back on mother earth! But for some reason, I decided that I should face my fear and move on the deck.
The boat was speeding; waves were splashing against the side, droplets finishing on our face. I got scared and held on to the stranger next to me.
Was I going to be able to take that picture? Then I looked around and here it was: the flag. Our national flag. Proudly flowing in the air. Somehow, for a couple of minutes, I felt liberated, free as a bird, light as a feather. A couple of minutes it took. Click, click, click…and this picture was taken!
Before I knew it, I was back in the cabin, sitting tightly in front of the screen, waiting to set foot on the ground!
